Janelle D. Tirrell, DVM

Dr. Tirrell has been practicing in Maine since graduating from Michigan State University in 2006.  She was no stranger to the state, having spent many summers here as a riding instructor and camp counselor in college.  Her equine background is as varied as the patients she sees now – from the Arabian world of South Florida to Hunter/Jumpers in Michigan, to the camp ponies, the one common thread has been horses.

Dr. Tirrell enjoys the sports medicine aspect of equine practice.  This includes lameness diagnostics, imaging (radiology and ultrasound), chiropractic and acupuncture work, dentistry, and wellness care.  No matter what your horse does for a living, he is first and foremost an athlete.  Dr. Tirrell is focused on helping your four-legged companion be at his or her best for you.  In addition, Dr. Tirrell takes care of camp horses around the state.  Kids’ interactions with horses on any level can have profound effects on the rest of their lives.  Dr. Tirrell believes that healthy, happy horses provide the best opportunity for kids to learn and grow.  She enjoys visiting camp programs for “Day with the Vet” events and answering the always-interesting questions of inquiring young minds.

Dr. Tirrell lives in Kennebec County with her husband, two children, two dogs and two cats.  In her off time, she likes to sneak in rides on horses who don’t mind her showing up at the barn on her day off.
